DR. JAN BIRCH
TRUSTEE
Dr. Jan Birch completed her PhD in Veterinary Physiology at the University of Cambridge, based at The BBSRC Babraham Institute as an Animal Health Trust scholar. Her doctoral studies and specialist research interests are in reproduction, lactation, metabolic stress and growth.
Across her career as an academic she has lectured, managed degree programmes, and developed/validated industry-aligned qualifications in the animal and equine sciences. She also has extensive industry-linked, applied research experience which includes partnership building, project development and grant writing for numerous collaborations between industry, the charitable sector and academia. Many of these projects have involved engaging and supervising undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD students both in the HE College sector as Research, Scholarship and Knowledge Transfer Manager for University Centre, Reaseheath, and currently as Hon. Senior Research Fellow based at The University of Liverpool, School of Veterinary Sciences.
She also has extensive experience in the charities sector having held senior management, Trustee and independent consultant posts with responsibilities for research, project development and funding strategies. In addition, Jan has a special interest in dissemination and knowledge transfer (‘making applied research accessible to wider audiences’) including conference organisation.
